all the family from Flamenco shows, Wild West shows, to Teletubbies. Finca
Siesta - Horse shows combined with dancers and camels.
Coast / Beach
There are countless different beaches along the coastline ranging from
secluded coves to town promenades, the nearest of which is Torre del Mar.
The town has numerous beach bars, restaurants, a good selection of entertainment
and nightlife. Sea going trips from Caleta de Velez with champagne, wine,
tapas and hopefully a swim with the dolphins. Nerja is a busy resort with
a plethora of gift shops and restaurants, serving its large English community.
Stroll along the “Balcon de Europa” and enjoy the sea views,
alternately take the horse and carriage ride or tourist tram.

Horse Riding, Mountain Biking, Walking, Hill Walking, Fishing, Bird Watching,
Local Fiestas-the taste of Real Spain.
El Chorro Gorge
An amazing place- the real attraction is a concrete catwalk “ El
Camino Del Rey” which hangs precipitously half way up its side.
Nearby are the Guadalhorce reservoirs with a campsite, canoeing, pedalo’s
and restaurants. An enjoyable day trip.
National Parks
National Park of Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alham are 20 minutes
drive. Comprises of three magnificent mountain ranges, deep ravines and
sharp ridges. Home to various rare or native species of flora and fauna.
The Peak of Maroma (which can be seen from La Calera) is 2,068 metres.
Well worth packing your walking boots. There are low and high levels of
difficulty marked walking routes.
Special interest
Artists and Photographers Paradise Spectacular scenery, colourful flowers,
butterflies and birds abound.
Every village celebrates their saint with a special procession, however
the outdoor Passion Play at Rio Gordo during Easter weekend is a vivid
portrayal of Holy week, internationally acclaimed. The whole town participates,
including many animals. Also the ‘Belen’ (Bethlehem story)
at Almayate, is a must, if you are here at Christmas.
Skiing and Golf
Ski resorts are located in the Sierra Nevada. Approx. 90 minutes drive.
The 18 hole Baviera Golf Course is only 30 minutes drive. (no membership
required) Prices for Baviera Golf Course are the best in the area
Cultural/Historical
Malaga The 11th century Muslim
Alcazabar with its walls, courtyards, and towers. Nearby is a Roman theatre
undergoing restoration. The romantic “ Plaza de la Merced”
where Picasso was born. Malaga has five botanic gardens, one of which
is “El de la Conception” considered to be the second best
in Europe. Malaga’s 16th century Cathedral is one of the most important
Renaissance temples of Spain. Gibralfaro the Arabic fort has marvellous
views over the city and sea. “La Aduna “ houses a magnificent
collection of Malaga paintings from the 19th and 20th century. There is
also the “ Pablo Ruiz Picasso” museum .
Granada Situated
below the snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The “Alhambra
Palace”, the most exciting, sensual and romantic of all European
monuments. It should on no account be missed, neither should the city
with its network of Moorish streets, panoply of Christian monuments and
the gypsy quarter.

Antequera Splendid
architecture and numerous monuments from the 16th to the 18th century.
The lower part of the city abounds with baroque churches and palaces.
The “Plaza de Toros” at the western end of the town with its
museum,( whatever your view about the morality, it's worth a visit). Nearby
is Torcal, the greatest karstic formation on earth and the Dolmens which
still exist next to the city, prehistoric evidence that this was a monumental
and mythical place.
Alhama de Granada
Scenically sited overlooking a broad gorge. An ancient spa town where
you can bathe in therapeutic, thermal springs. It is one of the unsung
gems of Granada province and has a really well preserved old quarter.
Ronda Perforated
by a magnificent gorge, on one side new Ronda with the bullfighting/bandit
museums, on the other side,old Ronda with its quiet palaces and churches,
well preserved Arabic baths and remains of an Arabic Mosque.
Cordoba A city
of considerable charm, home to the “Mezquita”, the grandest
and most beautiful Mosque ever constructed by the Moors. It has a Jewish
and a Moorish quarter. The historical centre contains many churches, palaces,
monuments and galleries too numerous to mention.
